Set-out is what you notice
Anyone can make a light come on. What you live with for the next twenty years is whether the downlights line up, whether the pendants sit central to the island rather than central to the ceiling, and whether the wall lights are level with the window heads.
That is set-out, and it is decided before a single hole is cut. We mark it out, you look at it, and we adjust it before anything is permanent.
Layers, not a single pendant
A room lit by one ceiling light is a room with one mood. Most spaces want a general layer, a task layer over worktops and desks, and an accent layer — wall lights, strip lighting under cabinets, something that makes the room usable in the evening without the main lights on.
Each layer wants its own switching and, where it helps, its own dimming. Getting that wrong is what leaves people with a bank of five switches by the door that nobody can remember the order of.
Smart switching, where it earns its place
Smart lighting is worth it when it solves something — scenes across an open-plan space, outdoor lighting on a schedule, a landing light that comes on dimly at night. It is not worth it as a novelty on a circuit that has one bulb.
We will tell you which rooms benefit and which do not. The wiring decisions have to be made at first fix, so this is a conversation worth having early rather than after the plaster is on.

Can you help choose the fittings?
Yes. We'll tell you what works for the space and what to avoid, and we're happy to install fittings you've bought yourself. Chosen with you rather than whatever happens to be on the van.
Do I need to decide the lighting before the plastering?
Yes, for anything recessed or wired in. Cable routes and back boxes are first-fix decisions. Surface-mounted fittings and lamps can wait, but downlights, wall lights and strip lighting need to be settled before the walls close up.
